Despite the freezing cold, strong wind heavy snow and heavy traffic in Stevenage, eight members turned up at Hope Farm in Cambridgeshire for our guided tour round this rspb enterprise.

We had short indoor talk with a cup of tea before setting off in gradually improving conditions (except the wind) for an educational walk round the site.

There were only 23 species of bird seen but that was not really the point. Nevertheless the highlights were Grey Partridge, Buzzard, lots of Skylarks, a few Fieldfares and Redwings and a large mixed flock of Chaffinch, Linnet, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting. The staff however were most impressed with a Stonechat, apparently a site rarity.
