Bird Identifier

Just in time for the Big Garden Birdwatch, the RSPB have reminded us of their helpful guide to working out what bird you have seen. There are 408 species of birds listed and you can use filters such as the colour of the feathers or the sort of beak to help you narrow down the choice.

It's a very useful guide for any occasion, and might well prove handy on a smartphone when out in the field.

Big Garden Birdwatch 27th-29th January

Big Garden Birdwatch is the world's largest wildlife survey. You too can take part and add to our knowledge of birdlife in the UK.

All you have to do is find a good place to watch, enjoy the birds for an hour, count the maximum of any species that you see at any one time, go to the RSPB website to submit your findings, or use a form and send it in. You can get the form from the same website.

There will be a special Big Garden Birdwatch event at Haysden Country Park with bird identification leaflets available from the park entrance so you can walk round on your own ticking off the birds you see.
