Today's the Day!

Well, it's the first day of the Big Garden Birdwatch, so don't forget to join this exciting piece of citizen science and count the birds in your garden.

You are only asked to watch for one hour and simply record the maximum number of each bird species that you see at any one time. Then submit your findings, either online or using the form. All the details are on the RSPB website. You have until mid-February to report back.

Big Garden Birdwatch 2019

Book the date in your diary now: 26-28 January and join with others all round the country as you count the birds in your garden for one hour. If you sign up today, you will receive a free postal pack, or you can take part online.

A great piece of citizen science, the RSPB's birdwatch has been happening for forty years so there is an impressive amount of data. It is also an enjoyable way to relax and get to learn about the birds in your own garden. You never know what might fly in in the hour you choose, and even if you see no birds, that is still useful information for those compiling the results.

There are many articles and further information on the RSPB website.
