Field trip to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

We had a challenging day of weather but still 7 of us took advantage of the Rye Harbour forecast of the early sunshine, though later we fought with the winds and showers. Lunch in the Avocet Tearooms restored us but very heavy rain afterwards meant only 2 stayed to go out to Castle Water.

We managed 42 birds with Wheatear (several), a Spoonbill (excellent views) and Yellow Wagtail. No sign of any poor raptors!

Bird list:
Blackbird, Black-headed Gull, Blue Tit, Brent Goose, Carrion Crow, Common Gull, Common Redshank, Coot, Cormorant, Curlew, Dunlin, Goldfinch, Great Black-backed Gull, Grey Heron, Greylag Goose, Herring Gull, House Martin, House Sparrow, Jackdaw, Lapwing, Linnet, Little Egret, Little Grebe, Little Ringed Plover, Magpie, Mallard, Meadow Pipit, Moorhen, Mute Swan, Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Sanderling, Sandwich Tern, Spoonbill, Starling, Swallow, Teal, Turnstone, Wheatear, Wigeon, Woodpigeon, Yellow Wagtail. 42 species in all.
