Our first coach trip of the season is to the WWT reserve in the Fens. The area hosts thousands of wintering wildfowl and waders. There should be big flocks of black-tailed godwits, golden plover, wigeon..... not to mention the visiting whooper and Bewick swans. Swan feeding is at 3.30pm if you'd like to see it. A coach trip to Norfolk Wildlife Trust's star reserve. Great views from easily accessed hides overlooking the scrapes and pools. Jeff Blincow returns to highlight the superb birds seen on a trip to South West China in the winter. Yunnan has a varied landscape with snow-capped mountains, lakes, deep gorges and rich sub-tropical forest in the south. Many of the misplaced eastern rarities that reach the UK shores in the autumn were headed for the forests of Yunnan to join the laughing thrushes and pheasants that grace the remaining forests.

These remote wetlands attract thousands of wintering ducks, geese and waders, and a variety of birds of prey. We saw a merlin last time. It's over a mile to the first hide; 6 miles round trip to the furthest one.

Richard Revels FRPS started photographing wildlife in the mid 1960's, concentrating at that time mostly on butterflies and moths. So, this is very much a return to his first love with a detailed look at the Life cycles, predators and other hazards these beautiful insects are subjected to. The habitats of different species are shown ranging from the uplands of Scotland to local woods and downs.

A great little reserve near Wellingborough with extensive open water and a sand martin colony. Grebes, lapwings and oystercatchers should be displaying, and terns and warblers back for the summer. Harrold Odell is more manicured but still worth a visit while we're in the area

Jono Forgham, has visited the Algarve on 6 occasions in the last 10 years, travelling the entire length of this fabulous birding area. Staying in Tavira in the East, he spent time on the extensive saltpans and the beach which can only be reached by boat. To the West he stayed in Lagos and travelled by bus to Sagres and the most westerly point in mainland Europe, Cabo de Sao Vincente, where blue rock thrush and chough can easily be noted.

Annual General Meeting followed by a presentation by our own member Ian Bennell who was born and bred in Watford. He started birding when he was just 8 years old and first went to the Watford RSPB group at 15. He was on the Herts Bird Club committee for 3 years, started twitching in 2001 and now has seen over 450 species in the UK and 250 in Hertfordshire. He takes picture of most of the rare birds he sees. May also show us a moth or two!
