Places to see birds

Blackpill Wildlife Centre

Blackpill Wildlife Centre

The Centre which overlooks the SSSI part of Swansea Bay, is a partnership between RSPB West Glamorgan Local Group, Gower Ornithological Society, and City and Council of Swansea. Over 70 species are regularly seen from the Centre and the beach at Blackpill is also an important feeding station for migratory waders such as Sanderling, Ringed Plovers and Oystercatchers. These birds stop over to refuel on their global journeys, from Africa to Greenland, and the Russian Steppes, and back again. The Blackpill Wildlife Centre has been opened to make Swansea residents and visitors aware of the importance of such a site, and to encourage them to be conscious of conservationist ideas. The centre is available for any group to visit, whether another RSPB members group, or school (Please contact Maggie on 01792-229244). Inside the centre, there are maps, descriptions, leaflets about the centre, birds and conservation and you will be able to join the RSPB and Gower Ornithological Society at the Centre. See Events page for dates & times of opening.
