More on Tree Sparrows

The Group established a feeding station for declining farmland species near to the barns off Platt Lane in Worthington.a few years ago. This has proved a great success with upwards of 50/60 birds regularly using the site each day. The main target species, i.e. Yellowhammers, Tree Sparrows and Reed Buntings have been the most prolific birds along with Chaffinches. Other species seen using the facility have been Great and Blue Tits, Linnets, Robins, Blackbirds, Dunnocks, Great Spotted Woodpecker, a solitary Rook, Jay, Pied Wagtail and even, refreshingly, Grey Partridge. It is hoped to repeat the exercise next year. Volunteers to assist would be most appreciated. The feeding runs during the months of January, February and March.
