North Wales does it again !

North Wales does it again !

The trip to the North Wales coast in always a popular one .... and not a bucket and spade in sight ! At this time of the year the weather was always going to be cold but the biting wind came as a surprise to everyone!! Unfortunately, the wind meant quite a swell at sea and watching sea duck was difficult as they rode the waves. Huge flocks of Scoter appeared and then disappeared with alarming speed. No sooner had you found a bird than it was gone from view. With persistence we found up to 5 Velvet Scoter and them some of us saw a male Surf Scoter .... but sadly the views were fleeting and not everyone saw it. Other birds included Eider and Red Throated diver - all flying past quickly at distance. On the shore amongst the common waders and gulls was a lovely Iceland Gull and Mediterranean Gull. A quick trip down the road to Conwy produced some lovely Pochard, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Goldeneye and Red breasted Merganser. Sadly the Firecrest hadn't been seen since valentines day !
