Anglesey does it again !

Anglesey does it again !

The weather forecast was for high winds and rain ... we certainly encountered this on our journey along the North Wales coast but once we set foot on Anglesey the rain stopped and stayed away all day !! Our first port of call was the Inland Sea. We picked up a pair of Bullfinch on the walk for the car to our vantage point on the Inland Sea. The wind was strong, resulting in the waves on the Inland Sea being quite large making birding difficult. However, we quickly found a Great Northern Diver and Slavonian Grebe amongst the commoner Goldeneye, Great Crested Grebe and Red breasted Merganser. In the wind all the waders were sheltering but we did find a few Redshank and Curlew. Just before lunch we called in to Beddmanarch Bay to find 2 Mediterranean Gulls amongst the Black headed and Herring Gulls on the beach plus several Red breasted Merganser, Great Crested Grebe and a small flock of Brent Geese. After lunch we hit Holyhead with a call in at the Fish Quay where we had excellent views of up to 6 Black Guillemot, 2 Guillemot and several Shag. Then it was round to the old harbour where we found another Great Northern Diver, at least 4 more Black Guillemot, 2 more Guillemot, 4 Red breasted Merganser, several more Shag and the odd Great crested Grebe. Finally it was a stop at Holyhead KFC (... not for any food) but for a Hooded Crow that was amongst the Rooks feeding in the car park. The looks 11 people with binoculars got from the KFC customers was priceless !!
