Update on the Inner Marsh Farm hide "upgrade"

Update on the Inner Marsh Farm hide "upgrade"

Around 18 months ago the Group entered an exciting partnership with the staff at Burton Mere Wetlands to raise the £95,000 needed to upgrade the IMF hide facilities. Thanks to a very generous donation from a local family in honour of their birdwatching parents the fund raising efforts got off to a great start. Members from the Group took part in a number of fund raising initiatives raising a significant amount of money towards the cost of the upgrade. This coupled with a staggering £8,000 raised by the Chester branch of Marks & Spencer, with the upgrade project being the designated 'charity of the year' for the store, meant that we hit our target ahead of schedule. Many visitors to the reserve kindly made a donation upon hearing about the project. Thanks must go to Graham and his team at Burton Mere Wetlands for their efforts and support for the fund raising project. The Group's committee and members should also be congratulated for their hard work and commitment towards the project. Finally, a special thanks go to Fiona and Kas, two BMW visitor centre volunteers, who not only secured the important 'charity of the year' status but worked with Amy Jones (the charity co-ordinator) at M&S Chester branch to raise the £8,000. So it was a very special moment when, in September, work started on the project with phase one involving the building of a new boardwalk across the marsh connecting two existing paths and thus avoiding the need for visitors to manoeuvre down a steep set of stairs when accessing the IMF hide. Phase two, the removal and building of a new repositioned modern designed IMF hide, is due to start in the next 14 days and it is hoped that the new hide will be ready by the end of November. By that date all the facilities at the Burton Mere Wetlands reserve will be modern and accessible to all. Everyone involved in the project should be justly proud of what they have achieved.
