Join us on one of Havergates most popular trips – The Havergate Adventure.

For just 3 days in August the RSPB's annual Havergate Adventure organised and guided by The RSPB Woodbridge Local Group will take place. We want to introduce you to birds and other wildlife that is found on Havergates wild lagoons whatever your age or experience. Homemade refreshments will be available to purchase and binoculars available to borrow on free loan so you do not miss out on anything.

Boats leave Orford Quay every hour from 09.30 to 13.30. Trips last approx. 2 hours 40 minutes and include a 2 hour guided tour of part of the island.

Refreshments and toilet facilities are available on the island and binoculars are also available on free loan.

Places on these trips are strictly limited because of the small capacity of the RSPB boat, so please book early. Places are strictly limited to 12 persons per boat so you are strongly advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

We recommend stout footwear, warm clothing, wet weather clothing and sun protection at all times of year.

You need to have a reasonable level of fitness for this trip because it requires getting on and off the boat and a lot of walking on uneven and sometimes muddy ground on the island.

In adverse weather conditions, the trip may be cancelled at short notice at the warden's discretion; in this case, you will get a full refund of your booking fee.

Time: The RSPB boat 'October Storm' will leave from Orford Quay hourly from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

Price: £15 for adults; £5 for under 16s. However, the boat can only carry a maximum of 12 passengers and demand is likely to be high, so early booking is strongly recommended.

The Man Above The Fireplace - The conservation legacy of W. H. Hudson

Location: Zoom meeting. members will be sent details by e-mail.

An illustrated talk by Conor Jameson.
Conor works for BirdLife International following 20 years with the RSPB.
A life-size oil painting of a grey-whiskered Victorian gentleman clutching field glasses hangs above the fireplace in the main meeting room at RSPB headquarters at Sandy. His name is W. H. Hudson. This talk reveals how this unschooled, impoverished, battle-scarred immigrant came to be so influential in the creation of the RSPB by its founding women, and in the rise of the modern day conservation movement.

Recovering the UK's Most Threatened Birds and Habitats

Location: Zoom meeting. Members will receive details by e-mail.

An illustrated talk by Gwyn Williams. Sponsored by Revett & Son, "The Butchers".
Gwyn has worked for the RSPB for four decades in a number of areas. Most recently, as Head of Conservation Investment, he has been developing the use of conservation finance in RSPB's work.
The RSPB's mission is to inspire a world richer in nature. This is done by finding solutions to 21st century conservation problems, doing world-class practical conservation, working with others to influence change and by engaging people to act for nature. But what does this really mean? How does the RSPB convert the investment its supporters give in time, money and enthusiasm into making a real difference for nature? In a talk illustrated with practical examples, Gwyn will describe how the RSPB has grown into the challenge of saving nature in an ever-changing world.
