Wildflower Meadow Planting at RSPB Blacktoff Sands

Wildflower Meadow Planting at RSPB Blacktoff Sands

The reserve is holding a drop-in event on Saturday 14th September to plant out over 800 young plants into Horseshoe Meadow, the area of grassland to the south of the hides. This is part of the ongoing project to re-establish a species-rich hay meadow habitat to benefit a huge range of wildlife including plants, fungi, bees, flies, spiders, moths, butterflies, amphibians, small mammals, bats and birds. The photo shows the meadows during haymaking in July. This project is supported with a financial donation from the York Local Group - the planting day is an opportunity to give practical help too.
The event runs from 10 am to 1 pm. Some tools will be available but you are encouraged to bring your own gloves and trowel. "Limited" refreshments will be available or bring a picnic and make a day of it!
