BOOKING ESSENTIAL

Join members of the resident RSPB Volunteer warden team for a relaxed walk around one of Wales'most breathtaking reserves.

Our walks have a special emphasis on seabird ecology with the breeding season in full swing.  We will look at how Ramsey's history has shaped the island's bird populations, learn about one of the Pembrokeshire's most important but least known birds the Manx shearwater and discover the story of the RSPB Grassholm Island and its gannets.

We'll spot some of Ramsey's other wildlife along the way, learn about the island's history and find out what it is like to live and farm on a remove island today.  Return to the farmhouse where volunteers and staff will be on and to answer any questions and refreshments will be available.

ADVANCE BOOKED OS ESSENTIAL AS WALKS ARE LIMITED TO 16 PARTICIPANTS.

Useful information:  There is a small shop on the island selling hot and cold rinks and snacks, but not sandwiches.  Toilet facilities are available on Ramsey Island.

It is advisable to bring warm and waterproof clothing in inclement weather, as there is no cover once out on the island trail and the boat crossing can be wet.  Sunscreen and a hat are also advisable in hot weather.

Shearwater Evening Cruises:  Want to see Manx shearwaters in their element at sea?  Having learnt about their fascinating life history on land, why not book the additional evening boat trip.  Please ask the Thousand Island's booking office for more information.

IMPORTANT POINTS:  Please read before booking

Due to the steep steps in St Justinian's and in Ramsey Island harbour and the rough terrain on the island trail, a reasonable level of fitness is required and sturdy footwear with good grip and ankle support, ideally walking boots, are essential.

Ramsey is a rat free island.  If you are bringing a picnic, please ensure it is securely packed in a rucksack or cool bag.  Open carrier bags are not permitted and will be refused.  If you leave your bag unattended in St Justinian's for any time, please check it carefully for signs of rodent damage before boarding the island boat.
