Osprey Chat thread for MAY 2018

  • Not sure if this is the right thread for this post...

I read the Dyfi blog Merin and Tegid Return with a lot of interest. Not least the Google Earth graphic showing 'Returning Welsh offspring that are/have breeding'.

In Cumbria it shows White YC - that's the male bird which has bred at Roudsea Wood and Mosses for several years. But it also shows Blue 9C a little further east, on the other side of the Kent estuary.

Does anyone know anything about this possible nest that I guess is implied by the graphic?

Maybe it's a new nest - perhaps a natural one - and they want to keep it quiet.

I am not sure that Blue 9C had a nest last year.    See    9C

However that coast seems to be a great area for new osprey nests.

  • Thanks for the link Tiger. Be nice to think that the Dyfi team know something that we don't!

Yes, the Cumbrian side of Morecambe Bay (on my doorstep) is doing very well indeed for ospreys. Wonder how long it will be before there's a nest on the Lancashire side?

  • Saw this wonderful picture yesterday.

Is it my eyes or is the Bird shown before catch the same as the one with fish clearly has a tag/ring on left leg.

The rare sight was captured by nature photographer Fredrik Lindbom, 33, from Helsingborg, Sweden.(Copyright)

    EDIT

Mike quite rightly quotes below. the second pick above ( as in same article Daily Mail yesterday) is a different photographer and Bird.

I repost to avoid any copyright misunderstanding.

  • Your eyes do not deceive you Kate. The ring is clearly missing in the second shot. The first picture was in the Daily Mail yesterday.

  • Link.

Having see the article online I think the second picture is just a 'stock' item to illustrate an Osprey.

In fact it is by a different guy.

  • Thanks Mike

Good job your comprehension is on the ball CHOL:):)

I have edited my post above re the photo and your link is same as I included originally.

  • Out of interest.. same was achieved ( double fish take) at River Gwash Trout Farm a couple of days ago. See pic sequence posted yesterday at Facebook River Gwash Ospreys and Facebook Jill Orme Photography  HERE

  • Wonderful

    Thanks 'Trying'

are the Osprey's realising they can reduce their workload CHOL:):)
