Have You Ever Seen A Good Black and White Bird Photograph ???

  • Hi Sparrow

    I mainly agree with you.

Here is the chance to actually compare:

    Richard

  • Thanks Richard, I think that proves the point!

I can see that black and white can work if you are turning the photo into a special work of art for hanging, such as the flower ones Robert originally posted, landscapes where you want to add some drama, or birds that actually are black and white, but I don't think it works otherwise. Just my opinion though, and it is very subjective as everything else in art.

  • I generelly enjoy the colours in bird photos, but Robert your flowers are stunning. Also Richard i think photo 6 of yours was better in black and white, the rest I prefer in colour. Interesting discussion and stunning pics as always:)

    Sarah

This one is probably cheating, LOL

    What a lovely image.

  • I do like colours in pictures, but I think b&w is sometimes better.  Great photos everyone.  Sarah, I agree about photo 6, (but all fantastic, Richard), and Jayne, I really like your Rook.

I was initially not too excited about this week's focus on black-and-white photography, as most of my subjects, are animals. I glad I saw this topic! I went ahead and tried it out on my dog for some practice, and I really like how it turned out. • Monochrome, or black and white photography, as it is more commonly known, is a very underestimated form of photography.

It can be brilliant for enhancing cloud and sky photos, especially if you have a DSLR or bridge camera that will allow you to affix filters, especially when using a circular polarising filter.

  • This theme is certainly from the dim and distant past,I think one reason we all took black and white way back when was because it could be developed at home with simple equipment and colour film was both expensive so buy and get developed.

Even my first "proper" i.d. guide by Peterson,Mountfort and Hollom 1954 edition £1-5 shillings in old money had a lot of b & w pictures in and very subdued colour in the others. Modern stuff is some much nicer to use. We 'ad it tuff in them days lol
