Drum Castle Grounds

Drum Castle Grounds

Unfortunately, the weather forecast for the day was for rain; and rain it did - continuously and heavily! Regardless the small, but select group of hardy birdwatchers had a relaxing morning wandering the castle grounds.

The number of species spotted was relatively small, but we had some real highlights, most notably a close view of a flock of 10-12 bullfinches and the sight of several tree creepers working their way up and around the moss covered trees. Jays were also heard calling through most of our stay, but actual sightings were confined to one or two glimpses through the thick tree cover.

Due to the weather, we decided to end the trip at lunchtime and headed to a local cafe for a well-earned cup of tea, where we were treated to the sight of a beautiful red kite as it flew over the car park.

Overall, it was an enjoyable morning in lovely surroundings.
