Places to see birds

Thursley Common, Surrey

Male redstart perched on branch

This National Nature Reserve is one of the largest remaining fragments of Surrey heath and includes areas of sandy lowland heath, mire, bog pools and woodland. The best time to visit is between May and September for woodlark, nightjar, hobby, redstart and dartford warbler but the great grey shrike is a regular winter visitor. Merlin, peregrine and short-eared owls have also been seen.
There is a car park at The Moat on the north-west side of the reserve on the road between the villages of Thursley and Elstead
