Arlington Reservoir Circular Walk

Dark-bellied brent goose on water at Hayling Island

Wednesday, 11 February 2015

On a cold but clear day the group saw 30 bird species on a clockwise walk around Arlington reservoir. Not surprisingly many were water birds, and the six duck species included pintail and gadwall. We saw both lesser and great black-backed gull. We managed three separate sightings of goldcrest, and we saw great spotted woodpecker, but only heard the green variety. Greenfinch was also heard, but not seen. The kestrel was our only raptor, while for mammal sightings we had to be content with a solitary fox. Notable absentees were grebe and cormorant.
