Abbots Wood

Nightingale singing

Wednesday, 13 May 2015

David Jode led 18 members of the group on a walk around Abbots Wood. With the trees now in full leaf not many birds were seen, although at least ten nightingales were heard singing. Among the warblers singing beautifully were blackcap and garden warbler. It can be tricky here to tell one of these species from the other. It was great to see several pearl bordered fritillaries, because these butterflies have only recently been re-introduced following an earlier local extinction.
