February News

Heavy snowfall during the week and on the morning of friday February 6th means that, for the first time since the early 1990s at least, we have with great regret had to cancel our indoor meeting due to be held on this date. Our speaker, Tim McGreal, was due to talk about the Rutland Water osprey project. Tim tells me that he was due to give his talk four times during the week and that every talk had to be cancelled because of the weather! Hopefully we can rearrange the talk for the not too distant future.

We are looking forward to visiting RSPB Rainham Marshes reserve by coach on Sunday February 15th. This is our first trip to a relatively new reserve having a "state of the art" visitor centre. Backing onto the River Thames in East London, Rainham is already attracting impressive numbers of waterfowl to its lagoons. The reserve is one of the best places to find wintering rock and water pipits and has recently attracted penduline tits! See the "Events" page for details of how to book if you are interested in going or alternatively contact Martin Johnson (01763 249459).
