September and October News for 2012

September and October News for 2012

The first indoor meeting of the new season will be held, as usual, at "The Settlement" in Letchworth on Friday 7 September and features a talk by our own John Dingemans, entitled "Farming and Wildlife". As a farmer, keen photographer and naturalist, John is ideally placed to comment on this subject! Members' subscriptions are due at this meeting. Our first coach trip, on Sunday 16 September, is to Cley NWT on the Norfolk coast. This mecca for birdwatchers is at its best in early autumn, when resident birds such as bittern and bearded tit will be competing for our attention with migrant birds, including possible rarities. On Friday 5 October our old friend David Cromack will be 'back in town' to talk about 'Wild West Birding', in which he will be discussing the fantastic wildlife and landscapes of Arizona and California. On Sunday 21 October we visit RSPB Dungeness and Dungeness beach on the south Kent coast. Our last visit, in October 2010, produced a host of rarities including great white egret at the RSPB reserve and a little auk on the beach near the power station. What will we find this time? Full details of all these events can be found on the 'Events' page of this web site.
