January and February News 2016

Our programme for 2016 gets off to a cracking start on Friday 8th, when we entertain Alan Davies and Ruth Miller. Ruth and Alan will be talking about their "big year" of 2008, when they travelled round the world bird-watching in 27 countries. At the end of the year they had seen more species of bird in a single year than anybody else before them, hence the title of their talk: "The Biggest Twitch". On Sunday 17th we take the coach to visit two "watery" reserves in Suffolk. Lackford Lakes SWT will provide a large range of woodland birds and wildfowl, whilst the excellent RSPB Lakenheath Fen reserve could give us sightings of bittern, common crane and harriers coming into the dusk roost.

On 5 February we welcome Liz Goodyear to talk about the butterflies of Hertfordshire. Liz is the county butterfly recorder and web site manager. She knows more about these delightful insects than just about anybody else in the county: it should be a great talk! On the 21st we visit RSPB Titchwell on the North Norfolk coast. Waders, waterfowl and gulls throng this iconic reserve, with its glorious sandy beach, and rare grebes and sea ducks, water pipits and a good variety of raptors are all possible. We'd love you to join us at one or more of these events!
