March and April News 2017

March and April News 2017

Our season of Friday evening indoor meetings has continued to provide talks of exceptional quality. In March David Tipling showed us just why he has won so many photographic awards with his talk "A Focus on Birds" and in April Peter Bradley, Senior Site Manager at RSPB Sandy, provided a very smooth presentation of the past, present and future of the Sandy site. In March we shared a coach visit to RSPB Frampton Marsh with the Stevenage Local Group. Frampton provided us, as always, with some excellent bird watching despite a ferociously strong wind. Brambling, tree sparrow, male and female hen harrier, merlin and spotted redshank were some of many bird highlights. On 23 April we visit Frensham Ponds, where we hope to see such elusive (in our area!) summer visitors as redstart and tree pipit, with an outside chance of Dartford warbler too!
Our programme of spring walks in May and June has now been finalised and can be viewed on the 'Events' page and, after the AGM in May (our last indoor meeting of the season), we still have two coach trips left. We will be running a stall at the Letchworth Festival on 10 June and will also be making an appearance at the Shefford Fete. Val Thompson has produced another newsletter (our 20th!), which can be viewed using the PDF link on this post. Our programme for 2017-18 is nearing completion and will also be made available as a PDF file on our web site. The events in 2017-18 will be available on the 'Events' page on or before the AGM on 5 May.
