Outing to Gibraltar Point 19/09/2010
in wood on way to Jackson's Marsh (Robert Outings organiser)

Sunday, 19 September 2010

24 people left Springwood in the rain for the group outing to Gibraltar Point, but the weather improved as the Journey progressed. By the time we arrived it was fine, but windy. All hides were visited, but most birds were at Jackson's Marsh, Tennyson's Sands and as the tide came in on the beach (rather distant). Rarest birds seen were Little Stint, Avocet and Curlew Sandpiper. Also seen were 11 other waders with Black-tailed Godwit and Lapwing being the most numerous. The few small birds that were seen were mostly Meadow Pipits and Goldfinch. Also seen 4 Grey Hares (Tennyson's), Migrant Hawker Dragonflies (the Mere) and on the beach Bar-tailed Godwit + other waders and 6 Grey Seals. 24 people went at a cost of £15 each (subsidised by the group). Finally thanks to Christine Robinson for her help on the coach.
