Black Necked Grebe Rspb Saltholme (Robert Outings Secretary)

Left Springwood at 8.30 am in big bus. Made good time to, our 1st stop at Hartlepool Headland. Very windy here & the tide was well in. Sightings nesting Kittiwakes nr the harbour entrance, lots of other gulls inc. Great Black Backed. Some Cormorants and waders, mainly Oystercatchers) on the rocks some Eider Ducks inc. juveniles and some people saw Red Throated Divers on the sea. Just past the Breakwater on the beach was a young Seal and another was seen on the sea here. Also seen at Hartlepool 20+ Purple Sandpipers. Next Stop was Greetham Creek (new footpath & viewing screen here) seen here Avocet, Dunlin, Common Seals and close to the bus a Yellow Wagtail. On to RSPB Saltholme, from the visitor centre Sand Martins, Mallard, Coot, and 2 foxes by the feeders these were also seen at the Wildlife viewpoint. Then a long walk to the Allotment Pool for, Lesser Scaup Swallow, Sand & House Martins, also seen here Mute Swan & Little Grebe. Then to Paddy's Pool Hide not much here mainly Widgeon & Tufted Duck. On the way to the Saltholme Pool Hide were lots of unusual sheep, at the hide were a pair of summer plumaged Black Necked Grebes, Spotted and Common Redshank, Black Tailed Godwits lots of waterfowl inc. Teal and Pied & White Wagtails. We then returned to the visitor Centre and saw 3 Stock Doves and as we were leaving for home we saw the fox again. Arrived back at Springwood at 7 o'clock.
