October 2020 Wildlife Sightings

Please report your wildlife sightings seen within approximately a one hour drive of Macclesfield to:

Clear photos will be welcomed and each month a pdf will be attached at the bottom of this page with a selection of photos received (if any).

Please ensure that social distancing and all of the government's Covid-19 restrictions are complied with whilst you are out wildlife watching.

Please everybody stay safe and healthy.

30 Oct - Well over 200 mixed Fieldfare and Redwing flock, about 2/3rds Fieldfare, Higher Sutton - Tina Hanak

26 Oct - Female Mallard with eleven tiny ducklings seen on grass between Daven Road and the canal in Congleton, let's hope the survive. (Jean Mackey)

23 Oct - 8 Redwing in Tatton Park gardens (David Tolliday)

22 Oct - 9 Goosander, all female, lake below Acre Nook (David Collis)

18 Oct - 11 Whooper Swans flying south east low over Tytherington at 3.00pm (David Tolliday)

18 Oct - Pike at Redesmere (David Tolliday)

17 Oct - 14 Tufted Duck at Redesmere (David Tolliday)

16 Oct - 50+ Curlew at first light, all took off together heading west, 17 Shoveler. Lake below Acre Nook (David Collis).

16 Oct - Goldeneye, Little Egret and Kingfisher at Redesmere (David Tolliday)

15 Oct - 150 Pink-footed Geese flying south-east over Prestbury/Tytherington possibly having set off from the Lancashire marshes not long after dawn heading for Norfolk (Steve McCoskery) (About 100 flying in same direction on 16th)

14 Oct - 2 Sparrowhawk over Tytherington (David Tolliday)

13 Oct - 350-400 Pink-footed geese heading ESE over Prestbury (Steve McCoskery)

13 Oct - Dipper and Common Buzzard, Wildboarclough (David Collis)

12 Oct - 80 Pink-footed Geese flying north over Tytherington (David Tolliday)

12 Oct - 25 Redwing flying over Prestbury (Steve McCoskery)

11 and 13 Oct - We have recently received unconfirmed reports of a large bird of prey, larger than a buzzard, in the Macclesfield area. Has anybody seen anything similar?

8 Oct - 6 Swallows at Higher Sutton (Tina Hanak)

6 Oct - Kingfisher flying across Tytherington Golf Course (David Tolliday)

5 Oct - 40+ House Martin, 4 Snipe, 2 Reed Bunting, Goosander (1 female and 2 juvenilles), Sparrowhawk, Lesser black-backed Gull at Prestbury sewage works area (Steve McCoskery)

2 Oct - White-fronted Goose (possibly Greenland race) at Acre Nook Silt Pond, Chelford (Please keep to footpaths) (Ralph Cole)

In 2004 The RSPB Macclesfield Local Group celebrated its 25th anniversary and published 'A Short History of Almost Everyone'. 15 More Years celebrates our 40th anniversary and covers the many activities and successes that the group achieved over this period.
