Hobby chasing dragonflies

Visit to Brandon Marsh

Earlier in the week it looked as though our trip to Brandon Marsh would be curtailed by the heavy rain which had flooded many of the paths on the reserve. However, we were lucky and the water had receded and the the sun almost broke through on a really pleasant morning. As usual here a good variety of ducks were present with many coming into winter plumage. Highlight of the morning was undoubtedly a hobby feeding on late flying dragonflies but common snipe, common sandpiper and kingfisher were also seen. So a good morning nicely rounded off by a tasty light lunch in the reserve café.
