Field Trip to Marshside and Martin Mere

Location: Coach leaves from Vicarage Road, Stourbridge (opposite the site of the old Corbett Hospital car park) - see Links page

Marshside is a RSPB reserve located just north of Southport on the Lancashire coast. It is a wetland site, with a large glaass-fronted hide (plus two screen hides), that attracts good numbers of waders and wildfowl. It is adjacent to a salt marsh, where, on previous winter visits, we have seen peregrine, merlin, marsh harrier and, on one memorable occasion 8 short-eared owls at one time! Martin Mere is a WWT reserve with several hides. The visitor centre has a restaurant and a gift shop. The main wildlife interest is the over-wintering wildfowl and waders. There is also the chance of merlin and peregrine. Further details are at
