Field Trip to Frampton Marsh

Location: Coach departs from Vicarage Road, Stourbridge (opposite the site of the old Corbett Hospital car park).

Frampton Marsh is an RSPB reserve situated on the Wash just south of Boston. Much of the site is being converted to reedbed with the aim of attracting bittern and bearded tit as breeding species. Another part of the reserve has mud scrapes. Beyond the sea wall bounding the reserve we may see raptors such as marsh harrier over the neighbouring salt marsh. The reserve also lies next to the River Witham and it is possible to walk to where the river enters the Wash. There is a visitor centre and three other large hides on the reserve. At this time of year we are hoping to see autumn passage migrants, particularly waders. On our last September visit we saw little stint, curlew sandpiper and wood sandpiperplus red-necked grebe and yellow wagtail.

This reserve is very good at providing information about recent sightings so, for more information, go to http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/f/framptonmarsh/index.aspx
