BTO Migrant News

Although spring is late this year Sedge Warblers have arrived at their usual time and Ring Ouzels are catching up.

This week will hopefully see the arrival of Pied Flycatchers, Redstarts and more Ring Ouzels and possibly more Black Redstarts. Whitethroats, Willow Warblers, Yellow Wagtails and Tree Pipits are also beginning to move in.

Some Cuckoos are already here including one of the satellite tagged birds. Selborne arrived on the 14th April, and PJ is in Brittany and Victor is also in France, near Lyon. Last year the very latest satellite tracking technology was used, but because the tags were much smaller the solar panel used to recharge the tiny battery often got shaded by feathers, so transmission has been lost. Contact with many of the tagged birds has been lost and it is impossible to know what has happened to them.
