Broadwater Warren - return to the outdoors!

Wheatear in spring

Saturday, 24 April 2021

Our first nature walk after lockdown, to one of our local reserves, produced some unusual sightings.
Here is the full list of birds we saw: blue tit, crow, song thrush (h), chiffchaff, willow warbler, robin, whitethroat, sparrowhawk, jay (h), wren (h), linnet, coal tit, woodlark (h), stonechat, buzzard, wheatear, kestrel, mallard, pheasant (h), blackcap, nuthatch, wood pigeon, dunnock, great tit, treecreeper, goldcrest (h), raven, long-tailed tit, lesser redpoll, swift, goldfinch, herring gull, crossbill (h).

Wheatear was unusual for Broadwater. Of the expected summer migrants, woodlark was only heard singing.
