December morning walk to Pembrey Burrows Beach and then onto WWT Penclacwydd

Due to the strong winds and showers forecast there were only two at Pembrey Burrows car park at 9.30am. They walked to the beach but the strength of the wind was enough to lift sand off the dunes to head height making the walk uncomfortable. There were few birds observable on the estuary with a low tide and strong low sun through a misty cloud. The walk was abandoned and the small group retired to the WWT wetlands at Penclacwydd where another two members joined the group. The British Steel Hide (see photo) showed a good range of ducks, gulls and waders incl. black tailed godwits, shelduck, gadwall, pochard, widgeon, tufted duck and a water pipit. The group moved on to the Heron's wing hide where teal, swan, egret and cormorant were seen. In the end it was a good morning walk with 32 species were seen and the showers kept away.
