Quick as a flash ......

Quick as a flash ......

Always a popular trip, the visit to Pennington Flash rarely disappoints. This year we were treated to some wonderful views of Kingfishers .... not just the usual flash of blue / red as they dart past the hide but a bird sitting on a perch just watching the world go by ! Ducks galore with Shoveller, Gadwall, Teal, Pochard and Tufted Duck all in good numbers. 2 Female Goosander flew in late on and promptly went to sleep behind one of the islands. 10+ Great Crested Grebe and about half a dozen Little Grebe could be found on the 'Flash'. The only waders seen were Lapwing which was a bit of a disappointment as we hoped to catch up with Snipe. The feeding station proved very rich in bird life with at least 2 different Willow Tits; up to 6 Bullfinch; loads of Nuthatch; Great, Coal and Blue Tits as well as Green Finch, Goldfinch and Chaffinch. Whilst we didn't see it, we certainly heard the Cetti's Warbler as its call literally exploded from a bush near to where we were all standing ! What a lovely location to spend a few hours.
