Join us on one of our Wildlife River Trips on the Alde-Ore River. On this trip you will enjoy a relaxing cruise around Havergate Island with the added treat of landing on Havergate Island for a 40 minute stop to look out onto our main lagoon.

Whilst heading around the island you can sit back and enjoy the commentary from our knowledgeable guide about the history of the river and the surrounding area. And then your RSPB guide will take you onto the island to look out onto our main lagoon.

This river trip will offer you a great chance to see the gulls on and around Havergate during the months of April and June when the island is otherwise closed to visitors. You can learn a bit more about their behaviour and see for yourself how they nest and raise their young. Havergate Island is now one of the main breeding sites for large gulls in Suffolk and is an experience in itself.

Out of the breeding season February, August, October, November and December you will see a more varied array of birds returning from their breeding grounds and recuperating on the islands lagoons. Winter months are the best time for seeing seals and larger numbers of waders on the river and lagoon.

The boat will leave Orford Quay at various times for the 2.5 hour trip around the island including landing on Havergate Island for 40 minutes.

Places on these trips are strictly limited because of the small capacity of the boat, so please book early. We recommend stout footwear, sensible clothing, wet weather clothing and sun protection at all times of the year.

All trips start at 10am returning back on the quay at 12.30

You  need to have a reasonable level of fitness for this trip because it requires getting on and off the boat and walking on uneven and sometimes muddy ground on the island.

There are no refreshments available on the island. Visitors need to bring their own food and drink for these trips. We have one public toilet on the island if needed.

In adverse weather conditions the trip may be cancelled at short notice at the wardens discretion; in this case you will get a full refund of your booking fee.
