Big Wild Sleepout at Pulborough Brooks

Saturday 3 August

Saturday night - set up from 5 pm on Saturday 3 August to 10 am on Sunday 4 August

Price: Adults £40 (£32 for RSPB members) Children £20 (£16 for RSPB members)

Booking essential

We'll be camping in our lovely wildflower meadow so you'll really be spending the night in nature's home.

Once you've pitched your tent, got yourself settled and enjoyed your evening picnic we'll be ready to start our wild adventures. We'll be running a range of nature themed activities that you can choose from - go on a bug hunt, meet some moths or become a wildlife detective. You could also try some of our fun crafts - make a mask, create a story or make a jam jar lantern.  We'll then all go out together on a night-time safari to our lantern-lit woodlands where we'll do some storytelling, enjoy hot chocolate (and perhaps a marshmallow or two) and look for night-time creatures like bats. If the skies are clear we'll return to the meadow for some stargazing before bedtime.

In the morning we'll have a breakfast set up for you, we'll be checking our small mammal footprint tunnels and traps and unpacking the moth trap, and then we'll finish off with some pond dipping.

Arrive between 5 pm and 6 pm to pitch your tent. We'll need to be packed up by 10 am the following morning (else other children may be coming to play in your tents!)

Places are limited and booking is essential - please contact the Visitor Centre on 01798 875851 between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm. When booking, please let us know of any dietary requirements (e.g. gluten/dairy free) for your group so we can try to cater for you. Please also let us know how big your tent is - e.g. '4 man tent'.

We do suggest that children are aged 5 or over. If you would like to come along with younger children then please call the Visitor Centre on 01798 875851 and ask to chat to Anna and we can discuss suitability.

Here's what we'll provide:

  • An exclusive campsite
  • A friendly team to get you settled and help you find our fantastic wildlife.
  • Hot chocolate before bedtime and hot drinks and a tasty breakfast of cereals, fruit and pastries in the morning
  • Hot and cold drinking water, toilets and washing facilities (no showers) will be available throughout the event.

And here's what you'll need to bring:

  • Your camping gear - tent, pegs, ground sheets, sleeping bags and pillows.
  • We'd suggest an airbed - the moles also like the meadow so it is a bit bumpy!
  • A torch and some insect repellant are recommended.
  • A change of clothes (bring something warm for the evening) and your toothbrush.
  • An evening picnic ( we can't allow camp fires or barbecues in the meadow - sorry)
