Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve is hosting Chris Packham's 2018 Bioblitz - 'Nature reserves are not enough!' campaign.

TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham is coming to Newport Wetlands BioBlitz, as part of the first independent audit of its kind in the UK involving Citizen Science.  His goal is to highlight the extent to which our wildlife is under threat.

On 21st July he'll be coming to Newport Wetlands, one of 50 sites across the UK he'll be stopping off as part of his 'UK BioBlitz - Nature Reserves Are Not Enough!' Campaign.  The campaign has a serious purpose, as the results of the 2018 audit will be recorded to create a benchmark: this will help measure the rise and fall in numbers of different species on these sites in the future.

He will be popping in to see what amazing plants and animals we have found living in this special place on the Gwent Levels.  During the day there will be lots of activities to help find and record what species are here in our ponds, meadows, woodlands and hedgerows. You can also learn how to spot invasive 'Alien Species' which might prove to be a problem on the levels in the future. There will be a prize for the most unusual or unexpected find of the day - so bring along your binoculars and magnifying glasses for a fun day out! This is a fantastic way to help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of the RSPB Visitor Centre, so whether you are a beginner or an expert, join us on our quest!  There will be led sessions by the counties experts throughout the day - so join in and Go Wild!!

We anticipate high numbers of visitors to this event, and car parking spaces are limited.  There is a demand responsive bus service from Newport City Centre to the Visitor Centre.  Bookings need to be made at least 24 hours in advance by contacting Newport Bus on 01633 211202
