Weekend Walk - Linacre Reservoir

Long-tailed tit perched on branch

Wednesday, 9 November 2016

Ten people braved snow and sleet to attend our Linacre walk, and they were rewarded with Treecreeper, Nuthatch and Coal Tit in the car park and magnificent views of Mandarin Duck on the water.

Eventually the weather improved and we went on to see Grey Wagtail, Goldcrest, Long-tailed Tit, Mistle Thrush, Lesser Redpoll and many more.  But the highlight was a slender waterfowl spotted diving repeatedly in the water. At first we thought it was a grebe, and then a cormorant.  However it turned out to be a Shag! Not only was it a surprise to see one so far from the sea, it was also a new bird for our Group's list.
